Other Interview Preparation Material
These are some more resources you could use to help you prepare for interviews. The main thing to practice is solving problems that you have not seen before, and talking whilst you are doing so!
- TBO Problem Solving Booklet. 151 "interview style" questions you can use to help you prepare. There is also a solutions booklet, but make sure you spend quite a while thinking about the question before looking at the solution. The solutions will often seem very "slick" compared to yours, but that doesn't matter!
- "Fortnightly Questions". These are some older STEP 1 questions which don't rely on much A level content (but hopefully will still give you practice at being stuck). Each one has a video solution and some examples of student attempts.
- STEP 1 questions. In general STEP 1 papers only require A-level maths knowledge so are a bit more accessible than the other two papers. Older STEP 1 questions feel a little bit more "interview-y" than the more recent ones. Folder of old STEP papers. You can find handwritten solutions to STEP papers from 1996 onwards on the MEI website.
- Advanced Maths Support Programme. The AMSP provides interview practice for students from UK State Schools who are preparing for an interview at Cambridge or Oxford. They also have interview advice in their "SUMS magazine".
